Kicked,Bitten, & Scratched

Scenario-

It’s summertime, and because of the heat I’m forced to bare my arms to the world, which considering my line of work usually means long stares and puzzled looks. Today is no different. I’m In the checkout line at the grocery store, and the cashier continues to look at my battered arms- I can just see the thoughts that are going through her head.

“Poor girl, why would someone cut themselves like that”?

“Those bruises, I wonder if she was abused?”

Sorry to burst your bubble lady, but it’s none of the above- it’s just a job hazard. No, I don’t cut myself- those scratches on my arms are from a cat that refused to cooperate while myself and another coworker attempted to take an x-ray of the abdomen. And the bruises? A 100 pound lab didn’t want their nails trimmed, reared up like a horse and I just happened to be a little to close to a wall.

Yep, just another day at work. This is what happens when you work in such an unpredictable field like animal care.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the last five years of my chosen profession, and I’ve realized a few things. For one, this is the only job that I’ve held down for more then 2 years, which to me pretty much says that I’ve found my niche in life. If i didn’t like it, why would I stay in this field for so damn long? Yea, I’m pretty sure that my life is going to be spent caring for the four legged, furry, scaly, and feathered kind.

What I’ve also realized? The last five years have brought about many laughs, tears, injuries, lessons, and most of all, a ton of stories. And that is primarily what this blog is going to be about- everything that I can remember over the last five years, plus anything new that happens will be here. Actually, if it’s animal related and I feel like writing about it, it’ll probably wind up here. Hope you like it.
